Thank you for offering up your lovely country home to our families. It was a pleasure meeting you and having the opportunity to converse. We arrived a little early and met Toni, she was very nice and left the house so clean for our use. She was also very helpful when I phoned her a few times. The guys went fishing but had no luck. They lamost caught a few, but the fish outsmarted them. The shop that you recommended for fishng supplies (Dragonfly Outfitters, next to Long's) was great. The La Grange Café was good, but definitely not home cooking! We will probably stick to smaller places next time. The view here is very peaceful. We took a photo of a bald eagle which watched us for quite awhile. We met the goat farmer and had a great conversation. We also met Rich Lorenz on his way into town and learned a bit of history. I truly enjoyed the walks, the river, the cozy clean home, etc. We will likely come back but may ask if the master bed has been changed out. (editor's note - replacing the master bed is on our list!)

What a wonderful, beautiful, special place. Nature is at my fingertips - the sound of the Trinity tumbling by, punctuated by the bleats of resident goats, and the many various birdcalls. Some rain, some sunshine, puffy white clouds and blue skies. The purple redbud in full springtime bloom. I leave here rested, recuperated, and renewed.

Coming from far way (Germany), we looked forward to spending 2 weeks in the middle of nature. Our expectations have been more than fulfilled. We really fell in love with the place, the house (carefully kept, very good equipment, in particular for cooking, the river, the sun and the stars. We were overwhelmed by Rob's helpful friendliness, telling us stories about the region and letting our bias roll down the river. We learned a lot about the inhabitants reason to live here and how they led their lives with a relaxed mood. We will recommend this location to all of our friends (unfortunately, however, few will make the long trip, but we know what they will miss!) So, we had a wonderful time & we're leaving the place with a full bowl of costly and happy rememberings.

It was a relaxing and wonderful time for the six of us. We learned a lot about the Boer goats - what cute little guys! The fellows enjoyed their fishing even though they didn't catch any. The gals enjoyed reading & I was able to paint (watercolors) a couple of pastoral paintings.

Christmas in September was totally fun. Nice time was had by all of us, seven fantastic beautiful women on our annual get-away! The home was very comfortable and well-equipped, the house was filled with laughter and pure good spirit. Thanks for teaching us about the South African goats. Sitting on the front patio area, enjoying wine, watching the goats frolic was so peaceful - thanks!

Nine days is not enough! We met Toni upon arrival - the house was spotless and Toni was great! Next we met Rob and the goats. Rob was so helful and informative, we enjoyed his company very much. We fished and swam at the locals secret swimming hole, ate out, ate in, and generally had a great time! Thank you so much for making your home available to us and our dogs. We fished in the Lewiston Lake Annual Fish Derby and won several gift certificates for local restaurants, boat rentals, etc., which, of course, we must use next year! Thank you again for such great accommodations and a wonderful time.

No steelhead! We enjoyed the stay here. So much more comfortable than camping or a motel. The house was perfect and very warm - sure it was a balmy 19 degrees outside. Too cold for the fish, though. We tried 3 days on the river and just got a 17" brown trout. Water was 50 degrees, so a bit of sun would of helped. This house if perfect for fshing and hanging out. We'll be back in the summer sometime for the salmon. Thanks for letting us stay!

Nice digs at a reasonable rate. Everything works, and so accessible. Thanks for the "private" water to wade fish. The Trinity is gaining in popularity every year but still manages to dole out a fish or two per person. Let the beat go on.

Please excuse my script - my hands are still shaking from all the fishing I have done. Wow! What a fantastic time we had. Thank you for sharing the ranch with us. Previously, we had stayed at one of the local Weaverville motels. As long as the Arttus Ranch is available, we will never set foot in a motel. Fantastic views, comfy accommodations, and so accessible.

Our first stay at the Arttus Ranch was great! The house was clean and the sun was shining. Sorry we broke the swing, it was fun and we can't complain. The house was well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We only had some problems with bees, and the river was cold but that didn't stop us from swimming. The fishing wasn't as good as expected, but a god time anyways. The nights were peaceful and relaxing, my favorite part of the day.

We seem to be missing the fish. The last 2 years we haven't had much luck with the fishing. Maybe we should stay a little bit later next year- Whether we catch fish or not, we always find the trip relaxing. Thanks so much for sharing your home.

Thanks for a wonderful stay. Everything was great and we loved the river. It was wonderful to have a place to come back to after exploring all day. It was only a little smoky from the Pigeon Fire for a few days, but we were grateful for all the firemen. I especially loved Lewiston Lake. One evening we saw 3 deer up on the bluff behind the house. We enjoyed watching the goats and the new puppies. Rob was very helpful and friendly. Our daughter had a great time too. Thanks for everything.

Great location. Very nice rancher neighbor was a font of information! Weather didn't cooperate for fishing river, blown out, but we scouted many new places and plan to return. One minor complaint about the house is that it was a little messy - chimney needed cleaning. (Editor's note - we've hired a different house cleaner, and we've never had another complaint.)

I came for a bit of R&R with my 3 kids. The fall colors and beautiful surroundings were amazing. We went into Weaverville for dinner, La Casita is great! Saturday we went back to Weaverville to get a pumpkin from Young's farm, toured the neighboring cemetery then took in the museum. Weaverville is so Norman Rockwell! We loved the Art Center, and saw a movie at the Trinity Theater. The river was beautiful as seen from the shore, - we will get in next time in warmer weather. The beds are uncomfortable and hard as a rock. There should be mattress pads. Other than that, we loved it and will come back again.

We have very much enjoyed our short time here at the ranch. The house was clean and comfortable. We came to relax, walk, and fish. I am happy to say that we enjoyed each of these activities. The fishing was at first challenging, once we knew what bait to use we did well up and down the beautiful Trinity. The Douglas City store and Long's Drugs in Weaverville has bait and info. Rob, our neighbor and goat rancher was very nice and very helpful. He knows where best to catch fish, where to hike, and knows the history of the place. The goats were so cute. We'll be back again.

Slab-sided ocean tough winter steelhead mock our meager efforts and savagely break our once thought sturdy gear. We retire to the comfort of the house to lick our wounds and build our confidence to once more face the inscrutable fish and big pushy river. Many gin and tonics and snacks later, we decide that the house and football are more in line with our capacity today. The fish will pay - tomorrow. We watch the wolf moon and celebrate the Raider win. Great fun, great place, great friends. We will return.

A great visit to the Trinity Alps - our first, but not our last. Canyon Creek trail to beautiful Lower Falls swimming hole is a must. We also enjoyed a rather difficult hike from Weaver Bally Lookout to Monument Peak's 360 degree views - but I'd advise anyone attempting the nine-mile 7000 ft. elevation gain drive up to the lookout to bring a spare tire or two, lest they find themselves involuntarily enjoying the sunset and starry sky from the lookout cabin, as we did. Our dog Casey really liked the peaceable goats, and Rob was both a great help and a fine storyteller.

Cool nights and hot days; clearer now as some of the Oregon fire smoke has blown away. The guidebook says that 1500 miners lived between here and Douglas City in the 1850's. A rough and hardy group, they struggled to find gold and pull wealth from the river. Now, six generations later, the only thing we pull from the river are fish. As for struggle, we eagerly kill the ants, in lieu of video games, and set traps for the nasty wasps - our ancestors wouldn't know us!

The Arttus Ranch is a beautiful place to get away from city life, congestion, crowds and noise. I was reminded of the simple pleasures of life: quiet, solitude, the sounds of a river flowing, the breeze in the trees, the crickets at night, the goats by day. Clear nights, wildflowers, fresh air, and a comfy home rounded out the last three nights. A lovely home away from home! |

This was our second trip to Arttus Ranch. Last year we came with friends; this year we had a family get-together. My son, daughter, and families. Mike & Chris went fishing. Mike caught a 7 lber, but it was a wild fish. We took the kids on a walk to find frogs. Uncle Andy found 2 salmanders, the grandkids got to touch them & hold them. The grandkids don't see each other, so this was great!

Came up here to catch some steelhead and some brown trout. All I caught was one little brownie but my son caught a couple of 3 # brownies. Seen at least 20-30 nice sized steelhead but they were not interested. Was wonderful watching my son catch all those brownies.

The lads arrived Friday evening for two days of guided steelhead fishing. Stewart, Patrick, Greg & Chris drifted the majestic Trinity on Saturday. After a spectacular day of fishing, 2 to a boat, we are sitting next to a warm fire sipping some fine single malt scotch that Patrick brought back from his homeland. After a hectic holiday season & the usual hustle and bustle of Bay Area life, I can feel myself setting in and reconnecting to the finer and simpler things in life: nature, friends, conversation, and a good elixir (fuel for the pen!). More of the same tomorrow if we are as fortunate as we were today. A great time was had by all. Many thanks from everyone.

We enjoyed 4 peaceful days at Arttus Ranch. Steiner Flats is quiet, pastoral, just beautiful. We ventured up to Lewiston one day and around in a loop on 105. We got caught in a snowstorm in the higher elevation, and as lovely as the snow was to see, we were glad to be staying down by the river, where we were safe & cozy. The house itself was very well-equipped and wonderful. Our dogs had a great time, admiring the goats from afar! I hope we can make it back when the sun is out and the river is shining. Many thanks.

We came from Ashland, Sacramento, and San Francisco. The house was perfect and peaceful. We have one pregnant lady (7 months)who enjoyed the rest and relaxation thoroughly while the husbands fished the river. Not a ton of luck with the steelhead, but a wonderful Christmas celebration. It's great to find pet-friendly places because ours means the owrld to us. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

We had a great time hiking, fishing, talking and eating in this great setting. I got to know my baby nephew here, and for that reason alone I will always remember this place.

The house was great! Our stay was quite long (two months) because my husband and his construction crew were working for the Forest Service in Hayfork. The house was well equiped for us. We enjoyed the goats and walks to the river. We hoped to see salmon but no such luck. At night the stars are beautiful and we even got to enjoy the lunar eclipse. Thanks for everything!

First attempt at steelhead on a fly rod. Hard work but great fun. Caught a 8#, 3 #, 3 # brown trout and 6 breakoffs. The biggest steelhead was probably 10 # and I fought it 30 minutes before 4x tippet broke. Great fun! Cabin was first class, very clean and the Red Sox even won. I will be back.

The Trinity river and valley provide some of the most scenic area one can experience. Although the fishing could of been better, a good time was had by all. The cabin worked out very well for the five of us, and the consensus is, we'll be back to catch that big one.

We had an absolutely fabulous time here. The view is beautiful! And this house was very nice, except for one thing- the beds were quite hard and so was the couch and the chair. Other than that,it was great and we all loved it. We hope to come again and stay here. Thanks for the hospitality! PS - lovely goats!

We had a great time. We enjoyed the house, the pasture and fishing out back, down at the river. Rob was very kind, cordial and informative with the fish, directions, holes. Definitely like to come back. Thanks for the hospitality.

This was a nice place, there were things in the house that were "extra", unexpected things that the house was equiped with; that was cool. Thank you for the weekend.

We had a great trip. Very relaxing. Elsie, the 2 1/2 year old, loved the lizards, goats and dogs. The only problem is that the water is too cold to swim in!

We had a wonderful and lazy week. Didn't catch many fish, and none were keepers, but we gorged on blackberries. Thanks!

Thank you Aunt Lorrie and Uncle Dennis. We had a great time - the river, the swimming, the rafting, the fishing - can't wait to visit again. Rob the rancher was helpful and freindly. Patrick enjoyed feeding the goats. Trinity Lake was a good adventure and a bit of a trip down memory lane. I do think it proved that to really see and enjoy the lake, a boat is required. Thank you again.

What a great time we have had! It's been so nice to swim in the lakes or rivers. No luck with the fishing just yet. The fall run starts in a few weeks though. God bless and good luck to you all.

The Arttus Ranch was perfect for our 2 families. The kids could conquer the river and go wherever they wanted. We loved blackberries and the shooting stars at night as well as the tranquility everywhere. Two days of activities (rafting and trail riding)was all we needed. Thanks a lot and we hope to get back sometime.

We had a wonderful time. My grandkids loved every minute here. They could ride their bikes, climb hills, play in the creek and look for lizards.
